Alan Miranda, the CEO of Ossian Studios, and Brian Dunn, 3d Artist on Mysteries of Westgate, graciously agreed to answer a few questions for Thieves Guild regarding the Mysteries of Westgate adventure pack for Neverwinter Nights 2. They were also kind enough to provide us with 19 BRAND NEW EXCLUSIVE screenshots showing the Sewer Tileset in all its stunning glory.

To learn more about Atari's first upcoming adventure pack for Neverwinter Nights 2, we've cornered its developers, Ossian Studios, and wouldn't let them go until they've answered our questions. NWN2 adventure packs are to be similar in scope to the final NWN1 premium modules, and the first one, Mysteries of Westgate, is expected to become available for online purchase in the following weeks. Some of the new content you can expect to see in MoW includes three companion NPCs, a sewer tileset for module makers, additional monsters, an original score and professionally recorded dialogue.

Atari recently announced the first Adventure Pack for NWN2 - the expanded successor to the Premium Mod program for NWN1. Mysteries of Westgate is being developed by Ossian Studios, who released the award-winning Darkness Over Daggerford module for NWN some time back. We had the chance to send some questions over to Ossian to delve into Mysteries of Westgate, with answers from...

Let's start with our traditional question: What's your definition of an RPG? What features or design elements are important to you in an RPG and why? What RPGs, if any, have influenced you or left a strong impression?
Alan: My general philosophy on game design is to give players choices because it empowers them, and empowerment is very rewarding. All good games (even of the non-computer variety) should prompt gamers to make decisions, and when you make a successful decision, it’s always a great feeling. Conversely, giving players little or no choice reduces them to being the puppet rather than the decision-maker, which is in my opinion, unfulfilling.

Ossian Studios was founded in 2003 by Alan Miranda, who you might recall was a producer on Baldur's Gate II: Throne of Bhaal and associate producer on Neverwinter Nights. The team's previous experience and passion for role-playing games landed them the opportunity to develop both Darkness over Daggerford, a title that was originally intended to be a Neverwinter Nights premium module, and Mysteries of Westgate, the very first premium module for Neverwinter Nights 2. To learn more about this latest project, we fired over a set of questions to the man himself:

For those of you not familiar, the downloadable premium module program has been reintroduced by Atari as the adventure pack program. Using the NWN 2 toolset, Ossian Studios, creators of the Hall of Fame NWN 1 module, Darkness Over Daggerford, have been chosen to create the first NWN 2 adventure pack titled "NWN 2: Mysteries of Westgate". So to learn more we have a special joint NWVault/NWN2 Warcry interview with Alan Miranda, CEO of Ossian Studios, who is also the Producer and Co-Lead Designer of the project. Also being interviewed is Luke Scull, Lead Designer on the project and Atari's Senior Producer, Larry Liberty. Here's part two which the folks at NWN2 Warcry have posted.
