After all these years, it seems hard to believe that this highly anticipated game is finally done and in our hands. When the final version of Neverwinter Nights arrived at the GameSpot offices, we installed it immediately and got started on our most daunting challenge yet: finding some aspect of the game we haven't already talked about extensively.

Tucked away in a secluded meeting room were seven computers and a lone figure -- BioWare's Tom Ohle, Dungeon Master. Six players entered and took their places at the computers. Each had a premade character: rogue, barbarian, fighter, cleric, wizard and paladin. I was Ragin Feal, 18th level rogue.

We visited BioWare's E3 meeting room and sat in on a multiplayer session of the Canadian developers highly anticipated role-playing game, Neverwinter Nights. As it happened, we ended up playing as a cleric, though the party we joined, which also consisted of a fighter, a rogue, a wizard, a paladin, and a barbarian, were all at about level 18, so that we could jump into a dungeon without fear.

The lounge at BioWare looks just how you'd imagine a developer's rec room. In addition to the foosball tables, blue-felt pool table, and coin-ops, a large wooden table holds just about every gaming console you can imagine. Xbox, PlayStation 2, and GameCube games are stacked on the shelves and strewn on the table.

It is indeed amazing how far we have advanced in the idea of the RPG. An idea brought on by Gary Gygax when he founded The Strategic Review, a gaming company like none else. But Gary had a different idea of RPGing than the norm today, his idea was to bring a whole universe to you -- under your control.

The Edmonton-based PC game developer BioWare will be forever remembered as the company that put Advanced Dungeons & Dragons back on the gaming charts with their chart-toppingly popular Baldur's Gate. The recently released sequel is sitting comfortably on the charts as well, having gained critical acclaim as possibly the best second edition AD&D rules game ever made. For a new developer, BioWare has managed some truly astounding feats and with Neverwinter Nights, they promise to make waves all over again.
